Rapid Response with WA State Dems for 2012

A quick rapid response need on a Friday morning. On Wednesday, a story broke that Rob McKenna has accepted $14k from a shady foreclosure firm that his office had put "on notice" for investigation. After sitting on those contributions for over four month, he only returned them to avoid an optics problem -- days before he announced a settlement with major banks.

We are looking for folks to submit letters to the editor on this issue -- let me know if you can help!

Best,

Looks like McKenna is really in it with the foreclosure mess. He should not even be Sec of State.

misty {at} wa-democrats.org Sign up with her to write LTEs on behalf of Democratic candidates this year.

She suggested the following talking points after the first Inslee-McKenna debate.

In Tuesday’s debate, Rob McKenna spoke about taking about a color-blind approach to industry. But how can we expect fairness when McKenna has been taking campaign money from Big Oil companies like Tesoro and other special interest groups? In fact, four of them sponsored his campaign fundraiser in Texas last week with fellow friend of Big Oil, Attorney General Greg Abbott.

As Jay Inslee pointed out, the oil industry receives billions of dollars more in subsidies than any other field. Calling that an even playing field is siding with Big Oil friends against Washington industry and hard working middle class citizens. Congressman Inslee voted to cut back subsidies for oil companies because he understands what a color-blind approach to industry looks like. Rob McKenna on the other hand is just plain blind.

However, I was more impressed by Inslee's commitment to financial re-regulation and wrote the following to the Seattle Times.

It was so helpful of McKenna to inform Washington homeowners during the first debate that we were responsible for the mortgage meltdown. Inslee, in contrast, put the blame on bankers who earned billions of dollars generating bad loans for the sole purpose of being able to make money by betting against them. Inslee has walked the walk by voting against the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, which enabled the deregulation allowing such shenanigans. Homeowners deserve a governor who is on our side.
