Richard Sherman dining with President Obama; Seattle’s Joel McHale hosting correspondents dinner
Seahawks star Richard Sherman is slated to attend Saturdays annual White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, D.C., which is being hosted this year by Seattle actor and comedian Joel McHale.
Sherman is going as a guest of The Huffington Post, and joins several other NFL players who were invited to attend the prestigious event: Kirk Cousins of the Washington Reskins, Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers, Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings, Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys and Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts. The HuffPos other guests are actress Anna Kendrick, actress Kristen Bell and musician Questlove.
It ostensibly will be the first of two times Sherman gets to meet President Obama this offseason the second being whenever Obama honors the Seattle Seahawks for their victory in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Sherman became a household name last season with his postgame rant after making the winning play of the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 19 in Seattle. After tipping a Colin Kaepernick pass away from receiver Michael Crabtree into the hands of Seattle teammate Malcolm Smith, Sherman went off to Fox Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews about Crabtree doubting him as the NFLs best cornerback.
The tirade drew incredible response from the public at large, both defending Sherman and calling him a thug. In the two weeks between the NFC title game and the Super Bowl, Sherman deftly redirected the conversation toward race relations in the U.S.
