VICTORY! Washington State Republican Chair Jim Walsh hits the cancel button on his mass voter cancellation initiative
An abhorrent initiative conceived by the Republican Party to toss millions of Washingtonians off the voter rolls has failed due to insufficient signatures, NPI has learned.
Staff with the Secretary of State’s office confirmed to us today that Washington State Republican Party Chair Jim Walsh canceled a 4:30 PM appointment he made to turn in signatures for IL26-126, which Walsh falsely characterized last month as being on track to garner enough signatures to qualify to the 2026 Washington State Legislature.
In reality, Walsh was attempting a fake it till you make it maneuver, just like Tim Eyman used to do in his initiative factory’s latter years, when he’d come up short again and again and again. That became apparent when national right wing operative Scott Presler publicly told talk show host Ari Hoffman that the signature drive for the measure was in trouble and pleaded with right wing activists to send in petition sheets.
Today is the last day to submit signatures. Since Walsh doesn’t have ’em, he was forced to backtrack and cancel the turn-in appointment for IL26-126.
