Gov. Ferguson meets with NBA commissioner with expansion talks looming
It's not often Gov. Bob Ferguson's calendar catches the eye of sports fans.
On Thursday, however, Ferguson's calendar noted an 11:15 a.m. meeting with NBA commissioner Adam Silver. Although the calendar didn't provide any details on the meeting's purpose, it comes after Silver in December said the NBA will make a decision sometime this year on whether the league is expanding or not.
For Seattle SuperSonics fans, who have been pining for the team's return since 2008, every morsel of information feeds speculation.
"As a kid, the governor grew up attending many Sonics games and attending the Lenny Wilkens basketball camp," a spokesperson for Ferguson's office said in an emailed statement to the Business Journal. "The governor recently reached out to commissioner Adam Silver, requesting an introductory meeting. They had a good conversation, and the governor offered to be helpful."
