Scarecrow Video in Seattle Is Closing and Reopening as a Non-Profit.

Last edited Wed Aug 20, 2014, 03:24 PM - Edit history (1)

Yes Virginia there are still video stores and Scarecrow Video in Seattle is supposedly the largest in the world. Even though they have many times more videos available than Amazon, Netflix, and other digital competitors, they are struggling financially. They will close and reopen as a non-profit in an effort to continue to exist. Learn more: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/644154729/the-scarecrow-project

Seattle's only local progressive show The Mark Rahner Show on KIRO Radio, had a great interview with a couple of the staff of Scarecrow Video. Listen via podcast: http://kiroradio.com/listen/9975823/

Other podcasts of the Mark Rahner Show also available here: http://kiroradio.com/listen/9975822/

Please support progressive radio in Seattle. Go to https://www.facebook.com/markrahnershow and give the show a like. It needs all it can get to stay on the air.

...since, as the story makes clear, Scarecrow isn't exactly closing, but transitioning from for-profit to non-profit status. (The Kickstarter project to do so is already fully-funded.)

Yes the Kickstarter program got a great response, they will still have to have great community support to survive.
