Sources: Weyerhaeuser moving to Seattle’s Pioneer Square

http://seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2024394215_pioneersquarexml.html

Sources say Weyerhaeuser is the “major company” whose move to Pioneer Square will be announced by Mayor Ed Murray at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Occidental Park.

Two sources familiar with the planned announcement said Weyerhaeuser, one of the Pacific Northwest’s cornerstone companies for more than 110 years, plans to relocate its headquarters from Federal Way.

Federal Way officials have been concerned that the company might be looking to relocate, and just last week Mayor Jim Ferrell wrote to Weyerhaeuser CEO Doyle Simons asking for a meeting to discuss the matter, said Brian Wilson, the mayor’s chief of staff. So far the CEO has not responded, Wilson said.

“It’s not surprising to me, but quicker than I anticipated,” he said about the possibility that Weyerhaeuser might be moving.
