Washington falls in ranking of best states for business, but still makes top 10

Washington state placed No. 8 in CNBC’s annual America’s Top States for Business 2015.

Washington was No. 7 last year.

CNBC used 60 measures of competitiveness and then separated the rankings into 10 broad categories.

Washington’s best score was in Technology and Innovation, ranking No. 1. The Puget Sound region is experiencing a massive boom as tech companies scramble to locate and grow offices here. That's driving economic growth, home sales and commercial development.

Here’s how the state ranks in all the categories on CNBC's list:

No. 1: Technology and Innovation.

No. 7: Quality of Life.

No. 10: Access to Capital.

No. 11: Economy.

No. 18: Education.

No. 24: Business Friendliness.

No. 27: Workforce.

No. 28: Cost of Doing Business.

No. 33: Infrastructure.

No. 36: Cost of Living.
