EVERETT The Macys store at the Everett Mall is slated to close in the weeks ahead.
The company announced the news in a press release Wednesday. About 100 Macys locations are being shut down nationwide.
Clearance sales in Everett are likely to begin Monday and run for two or three months, the company reported.
It was among the locations described as being unproductive or no longer robust as a shopping destination.

(27,813 posts)Maybe you like Macy's, maybe you don't, but this is over 6000 jobs! And Macy's has decent stuff, I buy almost all my clothes there and furniture and housewares, too.

(111,274 posts)and the one at the fancy new mall on the west side is closing. The one in the old funky mall here is staying open. My guess says it won't be open for long, their customer base of aspirational middle class and trendies has been beggared and can no longer afford their prices.
A lot of businesses including chain restaurants are going to go under because people just can't afford a middle class buying pattern any more. We'll have big box stores and fast food at the bottom and that's it.

(1,052 posts)The mall in Kelso is already a sad shell, losing Macy's will hurt bad.
My son wanted to go the mall for Christmas shopping, but we didn't find anything to buy. JC Penney at one end, Macy's at the other, Regal cinemas, a sporting good store and maybe 2/3 of the small spaces shuttered. Sears is gone; Montgomery Ward is gone. No toy store; no book store; no record store. One vendor in the food court. The city tried to help by putting the public library in the mall.
I'm afraid the mall and its department stores is a doomed model.

If they both close the Burlington Coat Factory store will be the only one of size still open.
