Tacoma School District teachers will go on strike

For many years a law has been in existence but not adhered to which allocated funding for teacher salaries. The legislature gave $44,000,000.00 to the District earmarked for teacher pay and is not willing to disburse that money. So the teachers will be voting to strike. Please hold the teachers in good wishes and your prayers!!! Tacoma is one of about 20 districts in the state trying to reach fairness and equity.

this has been fought over for many years. About 7 years ago the Washignton State Supreme Court ruled (The McCleary Decision) that teachers were paid inadequately and that the legislature needed to remedy that. Because Republicans on the State legislature held it up, the legislature was found in contempt of court. It wasn't til the Court threarened to hold individuals personally in conntempt that the fix was suddenly found to disburse the 2 billion dollars to the districts and some of those districts such as Tacoma School District #10 are holding the cash.
