VANTAGE, WA — Fire crews were battling a 3,000+ acre wildfire in the arid land southeast of Vantage Tuesday morning. The fire was first reported around 9:30 p.m. Monday and burned throughout the night.

At around 10 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff issued a level 3 evacuation notice, the most urgent, to residents near Wanapaum Village. There were a level 2 evacuation notices issued after midnight for the communities of Beverly and Schawana.

The fire was burning through dry sage brush and grass, and was threatening about 25 homes, the sheriff's office said. The fire was burning east, and was not close to I-90. There were also scattered power outages reported in the area near the fire.
