7,800 acres torched in eastern Washington's Powerline Fire, now 65% contained

Conditions for crews fighting the Powerline Fire in eastern Washington have improved, but not before it grew by over half its size.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, the fire had torched 7,800 acres of an area located 4 miles north of Mattawa in Grant County, located about 150 miles east of Seattle near Interstate 90.

However, that number stayed consistent Tuesday morning, while containment grew to 65%.

"The overcast and the rain just let the crews get a ton of work done yesterday," Incident Management PIO Nancy Jones said by phone. "Last night, we had some erratic winds, but we've seen absolutely no flare-ups."
