Wildfire Near Hanford Reach Now 15,000 Acres: BLM

DESERT AIRE, WA — A wildfire burning near the Hanford Reach National Monument had grown to about 15,000 acres as of Friday morning, according to the Bureau of Land Management, but was thought to be about 40 percent contained.

The Cold Creek Fire is burning in a hilly, desolate area south of the Columbia River and west of the communities of Susie and Willa.

The state Department of Natural Resources first reported the fire burning across 1,000 acres at around 4 p.m. Thursday. The fire quickly grew to 8,000 acres by 6 p.m.

The Cold Creek Fire is burning south of where the now-contained Powerline Fire broke out earlier this week near Mattawa.
