WI Assembly fails at Civics, no need for national constituional convention

The latest bill out of the Wisconsin Assembly fails at Civics, they think we need a constitutional convention for a federal constitutional amendment. That is not needed of course. In the last few days GD had a post about this being a way the religious right can totally rewrite the constitution if they get a convention, this is just cover.

Republicans in the state Assembly have passed a resolution calling for a convention of states to draft a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Under Article 5 of the U.S. Constitution, states can call a constitutional convention with the approval of two-thirds of all state legislatures, or 34 of them. Brookfield Republican state Rep. Chris Kapenga's plan would have Wisconsin join those ranks to draw up a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Kapenga described it as a duty.

“I plead with you and the other members to take this seriously, not to shrug off the responsibility that we as state legislators have been given to guide this nation,” Kapenga said.

State Rep. Daniel Riemer (D-Milwaukee) says the trouble with a balanced budget amendment is that there have been times in American history when the country had to go into debt to pay for wars it had to win, including the Revolutionary War, the U.S. Civil War and World War II. Riemer said those times may come again...

that we as state legislators have been given to guide this nation,” Kapenga said.

um, what? They were elected to guide the state. Or run it into the ground, in some cases.
Although successfully getting the right for state legislators to name senators to congress would have a chilling effect.

Mark Levin wants to create City States where Socialist democrats can pass their laws and not inflict predatory socialist income taxes on the vast majority of God Fearing Conservative Americans who he seems to think live in gigantic numbers outside the city limits of a few megacities. I won't post a link. Google it if you interested in reading the crap scratching's of libertarian loons.

From what I read, it tries to recreate the US under the Articles of Confederation that proved a titanic failure and required the creation of the Constitution.
