Related: About this forumWalker: 'We're going to be even more aggressive'
His base loves this stuff. Reaching out isn't going to happen. He is going to ramp up the dickish approach that got him this far, apparently. This is not looking good.
Walker said he'll work with Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and individual legislators on making government more effective.
The governor said his message to those lawmakers will be, "You're the ones who get things done. Lets find a way to do it quicker, lets find a way to do it more effectively."

(3,974 posts)This place was OK for the longest time, and then it just sort of got all fucked up in the perfect storm of the
megalomaniacal boy-man Scott Kevin Walker and the evil Koch brothers and the phony Tea Party thing and campaign finance stuff and Grover Norquist and ALEC and here we are. I'm pretty certain that in the end, not many of us will enjoy the outcome.

Being in education, I am already not enjoying the outcome.

(5,075 posts)I am damn sure this isn't why my ancestor shipped out of Ireland during the starvation, came to New York with his new wife and baby, then went directly to Mexico as a soldier who needed a job, then died in the poorhouse years later of hepatitis he caught there.
All my ancestors had a hand in building Wisconsin one way or another. This is not what they meant.

(3,521 posts)Unfortunately, many of them will not blame Walker and his owners but will blame the same old scapegoats. I see more bashing of minorities, poor people, teachers, government workers and Milwaukee on the horizon.

(5,075 posts)He would be happy if he could dismantle the state government, dump Milwaukee to Illinois, and sell the rest to his owners - the Kochs. Then they could appoint him as Duke of Wisconsin.
Where's Robert the Bruce when you need him?

(4 posts)He said he was especially going to more aggressive in education reform. Having been a teacher in wisconsin for 24 years, I am appalled by this. He is selling out. He isnt going to have to worry about any teacher union in wisconsin, because nobody is going to want to do the job anymore.

(3,974 posts)Robin Vos, popcorn store owner, has already made it clear that K-12 and Higher Ed in Wisconsin will be seeing big changes. In terms of K-12, he stated yesterday that he plans to start with the school accountability bill, which includes "sanctions" among other things. As for Higher Ed, he warned that "the system needs to ensure that instructors teach students and focus research efforts on how to grow the economy, not on, as he put it, "ancient mating habits of whatever."
Yes, public education in this state is in for a pounding and I don't see how it can be stopped. One of the greatest things about Wisconsin has always been it's public education system- from one room schools to the University of Wisconsin. Now we have to watch while these jacked up Republicans hold that public education system down and take turns kicking it. It's just appalling.

gut education
gut all regulatory agencies
eliminate personal property tax on businesses...therefore gut local government revenues
take "savings" from gutted programs and sink them into the sacred highway fund for the road builders association to feast off of.

(3,974 posts)I'm not as optimistic. What "bomb" will he drop next? Remember, he has to make a big impression on the wackadoodles to be taken as seriously as "Jeb".

(70,242 posts)the midterm and did NOT knock on one door that knew the truth about the transportation referendum! As I brought up the subject they would inject and say something that it was a good idea because now the roads would be fixed, we would have $$ for snowplowing, or potholes. etc-NOTHING about how it was going primarily to Big campaign donors of Walker.

(4 posts)Everyday I see a group of run down teachers trying to just make it through their day. Whatever happened to having a little faith in what we do. Teaching has become the easiest part of my day when it should be the hardest. In talking with the staff here, it has become quite apparent that everyone is keeping their options open. What a sad state we have become. I wish I were either 10 years older or 10 years younger. My decision would be easy then.
