MADISON Gov. Scott Walker said today that unions were trying to sabotage his efforts at government reform because leaders of four unions urged the Milwaukee teachers union not to support possible legislation to allow financial concessions just before the June recall.
Leaders of the Madison Teachers Inc. union were among those who wrote a letter dated Tuesday saying that the legislation would harm union members and the effort to recall Walker.
"Allowing Governor Walker to make such a claim just before the recall election will prove detrimental to recalling him and, therefore, will only enhance his ability to further harm all Wisconsin public employees," said the letter, signed by MTI executive director John Matthews and president Peggy Coyne, among others.
The Milwaukee Teachers Education Association union has been discussing with legislators the enactment of a law that would allow the union to make nearly $10 million in financial concessions to the district without reopening its contract, which would cancel the contract and most of the bargaining unit's legal collective bargaining rights under the controversial law Walker pushed through last year.
The Assembly and Senate have agreed to allow Milwaukee schools to reopen negotiations for compensation or fringe-benefit concessions without nullifying existing union contracts.

(30,058 posts)I tend to believe it is the latter. He is bull headed and must think he is something special. Let's see how his budget fairs after the recall election. He is the worse thing to happen to this great state.

(7,774 posts)he can't do anything but stay on message (talking points) What I can't believe is the party that claims to be for less government and less government intervention in your life wants compulsory vaginal probing? It does not get any more crazy than government forcing medical procedures on women against their will and the will of their doctors. These people are crazy, they are dangerous and they need to be taken seriously.
