From Sen. Tammy Baldwin: Gov. Walker's billion dollar mistake

While this was a fund raising email-everything she says is true!

xxxxx,

Last year, Governor Walker had a choice. And it boiled down to these options:

Option One: He could accept federal dollars to expand BadgerCare, which would have provided 83,000 additional Wisconsinites with health care AND save taxpayers money.

Option Two: He could reject the funds and essentially strip health coverage from 63,000 Wisconsinites.

Governors across the country faced this decision, and most of them, Democrats and Republicans alike, decided to expand health care coverage and save taxpayer dollars.

Unfortunately, Governor Walker chose to try and win points with Tea Party voters and conservative special interest money and rejected the funds -- costing Wisconsin taxpayers an estimated $1 billion dollars over six years.

This is why we can’t stop fighting for hard-working Wisconsinites. I’m pushing to expand access to affordable health care, but I need your help. Can you keep our network strong by giving $5 or more right now?

There’s no getting around it. Governor Walker made the wrong choice for Wisconsin. He put personal politics over the well-being and financial stability of our state’s families.

Governor Walker’s decision not to expand BadgerCare not only cost taxpayers, it cost our state’s hard working families their health insurance. (For example, a family of four making just above $23,850 a year is no longer covered through BadgerCare.)

At a time when Wisconsin families are struggling just to get by, they shouldn’t have to choose between incurring crippling health care costs or risk going without coverage at all. The GOP is already making cuts to education and infrastructure in our state -- families should at least have access to affordable health care.

I’m going to continue to work on behalf of Wisconsin families, but I need your help. We’re trying to hit $22,000, so we can head into 2016 stronger than ever. Your donation will bring us a step closer toward reaching our goal.

Thank you for standing with me,

Tammy
