How Wisconsin Congressional districts look under the new maps

Daily Kos has put together a spreadsheet showing how Obama and McCain did in the newly redrawn CDs. It turns out that Obama won in the new 2nd and 4th (roughly Madison and Milwaukee) in the 70% range. In the 1st District where Rob Zerban challenges Paul Ryan, Obama won by 2.66%. In Ron Kind's 3rd District, Obama's margin was 20.22%! In the two districts now held by Republican freshmen, Obama took the 7th by 7.85% and the 8th by 8.63%. Obama won by a negligible .12% in Petri's 6th district. The only place McCain won was (predictably) Sensenbrenner's 5th, by 15.41% (sigh). The result for the entire state was Obama 56.34%, McCain 42.41%.

What can we look forward to this fall? The northern districts, 7 and 8, are quite possible for Democrats. Rob Zerban has a hard job ahead, and the right wing will obviously try to protect Ryan, but if we all get behind Rob (http://www.robzerban.com/contribute) he has a chance, and he is certainly working hard.
