Milwaukee, Madison sue state over recycling funds

http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/milwaukee-madison-sue-state-over-recycling-funding-8i5crvr-151193885.html

Wisconsin's two largest cities filed a lawsuit Friday against Gov. Scott Walker's administration for diverting grants earmarked for local recycling funding.

Those cities were among the municipalities across the state that criticized Walker last year after they lost a big chunk of funding to run their recycling programs.

The funds were aimed at spurring a wider acceptance of recycling and reducing the costs of a program that local officials said needed subsidies.

The Walker administration kept in place the state's $7 per ton tipping fee but used some of the money for economic development and other purposes.
