Rivard (some women rape easier) 75th Assembly

had unflattering front page stories in two local papers this week. Co-workers who hadn't heard the story were pretty shocked. Even the republican blow-hard that I have to eat lunch with every day didn't stick up for him. Hopefully we can send this jerk packing.

I know nothing about this guy other than reading the full quote. Unless he's making up the explanation, this appears to me to be a rare instance where he really phrased his thoughts "inelegantly." Two of my concerns about banning abortion except in cases of rape or incest is that there will be cases where a woman is raped but accused of lying to get an abortion and also cases where a women gets pregnant from consensual sex but then after the fact, accuses her partner of rape because it's the only way to get an abortion. It's better to let women chose without having to rely on some exemption. I believe that Rivard was speaking about the latter scenario so I'm not going to blast the guy over this.

Now, there may be plenty of other things to blast the guy about...

"Rape" all these yokels have been paid to get in the newspapers stating the most outrageous allegations, denigrating what the word actually means and all of its tragic connotations. If I were an alerting type of person, these stories would be the one's just to keep tabloid filler off the front pages. We all need to, just to get the point across.

Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan pulled his endorsement of Rivard, with a spokesman callling Rivard's statements "outrageous and offensive" Gov. Scott Walker, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tommy Thompson and U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson also condemned the lawmaker.

At a noon luncheon Thursday, the head of the Assembly GOP campaign effort, Republican Robin Vos, said Rivard had done a poor job of explaining his position but he knew where Rivard's heart was, "I have no doubt whatsoever that when the people look at Roger's entire record, not a single sentence, that they will return him to Madison because he has been doing the things that they want here at the Capitol."

But by five o'clock last night, Vos sent an e-mail to Wispolitics, saying, "I cannot stand by Roger Rivard."
