Mary Burke has announced her candidacy for Governor, but do her values align with those of the Democratic base?

There's Nothing About Mary
It was seen that Burke donated $2.5 million for a charter school that never even opened its doors.
It was seen that she spent $120,000 for a seat on a school board, more than ten times her opponent, who is a union man. While in her very expensive school board seat, she voted against the teachers.
...
The reporter pressed her on Act 10, to which she gave a response that was notable for its unresponsiveness:
Burke said this week that she does support collective bargaining for public workers, but she stopped short of saying she would change the law to give it back to them.
Do we really want to back Ms. Burke, especially knowing we have a more progressive candidate available?

(45,274 posts)Funny how Mike Tate (his first name really oughtta be Dick) latched onto her & started the promotion right away. Doesn't the state Party usually wait until the Faithful have spoken in the primary before they leap on an endorsement? Why is $he being pu$hed down our throat$ at thi$ point?
Yeah, I want Vinehout, but she doesn't come with the big bucks. She also needs a speech coach & some polishing.

(23,762 posts)they're nothing but a back door to privatizing public schools and fucking over teacher unions. My wife taught for 15 years in a private school did 300 hours a year off the clock had a 5th year ed. she peaked at 23K when she went to the public school it was no off the clock and salary went to 48K.
Sounds to me like she thinks she has teachers in the bag because of their dislike of Walker. Not a great platform IMHO.

(2,561 posts)About her ability to self-fund a campaign:
If the amount of money spent on campaigning is the main determiner of who wins the race, Mary Burke has already lost because the Republicans can outspend her easily.
Chris Abele had the ability to self-fund his campaign for Milwaukee County executive. Ask Milwaukee county how that turned out for them.
The Republicans will have attack advertisements about how she is a "Madison liberal" and it will weigh against her campaign outside of Madison and Milwaukee.
By making no campaign promises, she can avoid disappointing those who vote for her, should she somehow become elected.
About her promotion as presumptive candidate:
Mike Tate, in pushing Burke so early on, is merely fulfilling the Democratic Party leadership propensity of assembling the "circular firing squad."
