Voucher group commandeers special elections
A Washington, D.C.-based special interest group is doing most of the talking in two special elections for state Assembly seats, one of which was vacated by the ethically challenged Assembly majority leader.
The American Federation for Children has spent nearly twice as much on campaign advertisements as the 12 candidates have spent collectively in the 69th and 21st district races. As notable as the cost of AFC's campaigning is the dishonesty. The group's ads have nothing to do with the real reason it wants to influence the elections, namely promotion of school privatization. One of AFC's ads focuses on the plight of seniors and their need for property tax relief. A second ad deals with jobs and making sure Wisconsin is "open for business." No mention is made of Wisconsin's private school voucher program, or even schools generally.
Earlier this year, the Democracy Campaign filed a complaint against AFC for failing to disclose to state election authorities a large portion of its overall spending to influence 2012 elections.

Beyond Citizens United
If Alabama businessman Shaun McCutcheon wins his Supreme Court case challenging a key federal campaign contribution limit, the effects will not likely be limited to federal elections, nor would such a ruling be remotely in keeping with the founders' vision of American democracy. And it won't be the final assault on campaign donation limits.
There's method to this madness.
We're in the fight of our lives. So we stand and fight.

(53,475 posts)1. Blue Dog Mike Tate, working hard to undermine Democratic ideals and programs...
The folks I talk to are so much more progressive than any of our Party "leaders" it gives credence to the idea that the Republicans have their moles running our Party.
The ineptness of the Party leadership in scheduling the recall should've been enough to shitcan all of them; the squandering of the 30,000 committed recall volunteer's energy afterwards is unforgivable.
