UPFRONT: Vinehout moves closer to gubernatorial bid

MILWAUKEE —Kathleen Vinehout tells “UpFront with Mike Gousha” that Wisconsinites are tired of politics as usual and that she’s “moving closer every day” toward a 2014 Dem gubernatorial bid.

The western Wisconsin state senator said on Sunday’s show she plans to continue touring the state to gauge support and expects to make a decision sometime after the first of the new year.

Part of that decision, she said, will be assessing her ability to build a campaign infrastructure.

“If I had problems doing that, that’s something I would have to address,” Vinehout said on the program, produced in partnership with WisPolitics.com. “If you’re running a grassroots campaign, it is imperative that there be an infrastructure around the state so that when those volunteers call… there’s somebody there who can get them started.”

In the Democratic primary ahead of the 2012 recall election--which she referred to as a “get acquainted campaign”--Vinehout netted 4 percent of the vote.
