State cuts hit funds for family planning

Teton County Public Health is fighting to keep birth control accessible and affordable for low-income women, despite pending budget cuts.

Public Health aims to secure about $18,000 in Title X funding, a pot of money provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to pay for family planning services in 2017.

If secured the grant money — along with about $13,000 raised at Old Bill’s Fun Run — would also give the agency buying power to purchase intrauterine devices at reduced costs.

“This money is specifically for family planning,” Public Health Director Jodie Pond said. “This is really for access to good women’s health care.”
