that is based on pretty blue mountain lakes whose turquoise colour depend on glaciers rubbing against rocks and making glacial flour that flows into lakes and suspends in the lakes. The glaciers are all melting. Both industries are dying. If she was smart she would leave the pensions in Canada which can then spread the risk of climate change and climate opportunities. Think how many Albertan workers retire in places outside of Alberta? Will Danielle be sending money to Nova Scotia or Ontario or NFL & L?

who retire in some other province or territory. Serms obvious they would have to. Alberta has a huge boom/bust economy which get economic migrants from other provinces when times are good. Then they move back to Nova Scotia or wherever when there is a bust. I would assume it happens way more frequently with workers in Alberta than with any other province. I wonder who will pay those pensions.

Alberta benefits from the supply of educated workers from the rest of Canada. They don't have to support them when they are no jobs. Alberta always says they get a raw deal from Canada but really they are lucky.

I wonder if such a crazy Alberta Pension plan will scare off said out of province workers.

Alberta was an original taker province until it got lucky with oil.

Now it wants to continue polluting its way to wealth, climate be damned. They did not invent anything for that wealth. They did not buy and sell stuff for profit. They did not grow it. They did not manufacture it. Granted there is hard work to get it out of the ground, but not proportionately for the wealth. That wealth is Canadian.

Good points about education and employment insurance. You could also add in health care for elderly people who have dispersed to other provinces. Alberta is not known as a retirement destination.

Yes I watched that video, Alberta has always been a transient province and many workers did not even live here, they just set up an address (taxes were lower here) and go back to their province when off. Many of the people working on the rigs worked a 20 days on and 10 day off shift which allowed them to go back to their province. I am the outlier here, moving from a retirement area in BC to Calgary because all my grandchildren are here but most of my earnings were not in Alberta.
