OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre tried to boost his MPs' morale with bags of fast food during a marathon voting session he forced over the weekend, but during that same session, public opinion was souring on him, a new poll suggests.

The latest Abacus Data survey — provided exclusively to the Star — reveals a five percentage point drop in support for Poilievre's Conservatives, an increase in those who have a negative opinion of Poilievre and a move away from him among those who think it's time for a change in government.

While the Conservatives are still ahead of the Liberals by 10 percentage points overall, the shift is notable, said Abacus Data CEO David Coletto, because the numbers don't also show a corresponding positive change in how people think Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government is doing, nor do more people like Trudeau.

1. I hope it keeps going. I have absolutely nothing against Trudeau at all but it is time for a change

by the next election. I do think he will step down. Who do you think is ready to take over for him? We need someone who will blow the conservatives out of the water, I am so sick of them and their "leaders" that get worse each time they choose a new one. They are using the US republican's playbook and are becoming more and more ridiculous. Poilievre is a complete clown, still reminds me of Mike Johnson

to be PM. It is about time. I'm not sick of Trudeau but I get that others are. 8 years is a long time in Politics.

Spending far too much time on the US politics which is overwhelming on an almost daily basis. I am grateful that our politics are much more boring, even though Poilievre would like nothing more than to change it to theatrics.

Melanie Joly apparently went into Le Francophonie when it was a big dumpster fire and put it out when she was a Jr. Minister. She's been smooth as Minister of Global Affaires.
