But these 2 recipients are complete embarrassments to Canada. Well, at least the tolerant 1970s-and 80's Canada that I grew up in; Not sure about Harper's Canada. MP Maurice Vellacott should have to explain these citations in the HOC and held to task by the media (neither of which will happen). Nicholson is simply a stooge.

The Diamond Jubilee is the 60th anniversary of a monarch's reign. But that's beside the point.

Giving honours to criminals who committed their crimes in pursuit of their own personal agendas because those agendas coincide with the government's is not just wrong, not just unethical, but despicable. But this is the Harper government, after all: controlled by the GOP, advised by the teabaggers and taking financial hints from Conrad Black.

(And if Ms. Brownrigg believes the actions of these two criminals remind her of "Mother Teresa", then maybe she should get a clue and read "Missionary Position" by Christopher Hitchens. If these two are "Mother Teresa", then for the good of us all, keep them in jail!)

Fuck Harper

well said. I assumed that they had no historical connection with Victoria's jubilee, but rather were another PR stunt of Conservative greatness, like the war of 1812 celebrations. But ya, Harper's Canada.......... well..........

Vic Toews is pretty emblematic of where we are at and where we're goin' as far as expectations of social justice.
