This is what you do for your neighbors.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced Wednesday members of the Royal Canadian Air Force successfully evacuated 11 Minnesota teenagers and four staff members from wildfires north of the border.
Officials with YMCA of the North say the teens were split into two groups. Both have exited Wabakimi Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, and are on their way back to Minnesota. The park is about 175 miles north of the Minnesota border.
One group was evacuated overnight by plane Wednesday, and the other group was "evacuated by helicopter in coordination with Canadian authorities," the YMCA says, adding that the campers, ranging in age from 16 to 18, "have progressed through our wilderness program" and are led by "highly-trained guides."

(14,813 posts)Can you imagine if it was Canadian teens rescued by the US? He'd complain and cajole about how useless Canada is, how they need pay more in tariffs to cover the costs, how this wouldn't have happened if they were the 51st state, etc.

(27,129 posts)Canada has come to the aid of Americans.
During slavery in the US, Canada accepted escaped enslaved people.
More recently, they sheltered US Embassy personnel during the Iranian Revolution in 1979/1980.
During the 911 terrorist attacks, they accepted US planes returning from abroad who were unable to enter the US when our air traffic was shut down. They gave those American travelers food and shelter and helped arrange returns to the US by land.
In 2017, when Trump proclaimed his Muslim ban, several Muslims en route to the US got stranded at airports. US Senators, Representatives, and immigration agencies helped those people find places to go or ways to return home. Senator Schumer intervened in NYC in person to help stranded airport arrivals. Muslim immigrants already in the US began fleeing across the border into Canada. Canadians took them in as refugees.
Americans owe a lot of gratitude to Canada.
