(8,646 posts)the only thing I can think of is that every single undecided flocked to the polls to keep Wildrose out. And quite a few lefties voted strategically also.

(5,604 posts)If your theory about the undecideds is correct, then I have hope for the rest of the country yet. (Sort of) Congratulations, catastrophe averted!
And lazy work by the pollsters. Plus there may have been some money pushing the polls. The Wildrose collected more money for the campaign than the PC's.
In addition there was a stop the Wildrose campaign, which was perhaps advanced by the polls showing the Wildrose winning.

(8,646 posts)but I got polled and as soon as I hit the button for NDP the line went dead on me. Maybe there was some kind of error going on in their robocall polls?

(8,646 posts)I forget the company, but it was a legitimate survey, not the same robocall type of thing that's in the scandal. It was just in robocall format where you press a button to indicate who you were planning on supporting in the election. Instead of asking me to verify what I pressed, the phone just went dead.

(8,646 posts)No, mine was legit. "Who do you plan to vote for in the election on April 23" type of question. Just one question. What kind of questions were in the push polls?

(32,822 posts)Things really started to turn around last Wednesday when the poopoo really started hitting the propeller with the homophobia and racism. There wasn't time to do another accurate poll.

(32,822 posts)The Alberta Party got a lot of cricket chirping as did the Evergreens.
Best quote of the day, Brian Mason - "We're going to need a bigger phone booth".
Elections Alberta did not do a good job. I'm alternating between calling it a "gong show" and "clusterfuck".

(50,481 posts)but I was as was my family. We voted strategically to keep the Tea Party North out and, by extension, the "Harper Government" extreme policies.
The pollsters totally discredited themselves on this one. Their polling techniques are antiquated, many young adults don't have landlines so were not factored in and people like me who still have a landline along with a cell phone also have call display and don't pick up on calls that are unidentified or unknown. It seems obvious to me the pollsters are becoming more and more irrelevant as technology advances.

(8,646 posts)I also voted strategically as it was a 2-way race in my riding between Wildrose and PC.
My parents were polled numerous times and just hung up. I was polled once (that I picked up, as I rarely pick up unknown numbers) and it didn't work for me (the robocall hung up on me). Plus, I had planned to vote NDP until it became obvious in my riding that it was a 2-way race. Then it was an anybody-but-Wildrose vote. I'm sure I wasn't the only one. PC won my riding.

(1 post)I fully intended to vote PC as my riding was going to go to either the PC's or Wildrose no matter which way you looked at it. I figured I could throw up later.
Couldn't pull it off when I got there. Voted NDP.
PC won the riding - PC-7205/WR 6710.
I am very appreciative that you and others did though...
Dodged a bullet.
