David Davis faces criticism for gaps in Brexit impact papers
https://www.ft.com/content/66169106-d39d-11e7-8c9a-d9c0a5c8d5c9Davis, the UK Brexit secretary, is facing criticism from MPs over claims that his department redacted key information from Brexit “analysis papers” that were handed over to parliament on Monday.
Mr Davis has been locked in a battle with MPs for months over his initial refusal to produce the Brexit papers covering 58 sectors. He initially claimed that their publication would undermine Britain’s negotiating position in Brussels.
But after losing a vote on a Labour motion in the House of Commons this month, Mr Davis on Monday met a three-week deadline to hand over the information to the Commons Brexit select committee, chaired by Labour’s Hilary Benn.
However, suspicions were raised almost immediately after it became clear that the sectoral papers had been distilled into a single, 850-page document, with market-sensitive information removed.
