Her Majesty pranks confused American tourists

Queen Elizabeth II still has a good bit of mischief in her — she once pranked a group of American tourists who stumbled upon her on the grounds of one of her castles, but didn’t recognize her.

The tourists happened upon her majesty outside Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The 93-year-old monarch was dressed in tweeds and wearing a head scarf at the time, and was walking with one of her “protection officers,” the Daily Mail reports. The tourists struck up a conversation with the sweet old lady, asking her if she lived nearby — and whether she’d ever met the Queen.

The royal replied that yes, she did indeed live nearby. Then she gestured toward the officer and added that while she had never met the queen, “this policeman has.”

It was the protection officer — longtime royal staffer Richard Griffin — who shared the anecdote with the Times of London.
