South Yorkshire Police deny hiding girls' sex abuse

A police force has denied withholding information about the scale of sexual exploitation of girls by gangs of men in South Yorkshire.

The county's force was responding after The Times said confidential police reports referred to widespread abuse of girls by Asian men.

Rotherham MP Denis MacShane said police kept secret the abuse from politicians.

Five men have been jailed after being found guilty of sex offences against girls as young as 12.

The men were condemned as "sexual predators" by the judge after they were found guilty of grooming teenage girls for sex.

Some of the defendants wept in the dock at Sheffield Crown Court as the sentences were handed out.

Three other men, were found not guilty of sex offences against girls aged between 12 and 16.
