Java 8 would over ride java 7 and delete it.

I would just leave it alone and not worry about it.

I called Avast last night about this issue. They attempted to sell me tech support, which I declined. I went to their forum and it's a known issue with their software updater, and there were instructions on how to reset the database. All's well now. Java website removed all the old versions for me.

Leaving Java 7 installed exposes your operating system to security bugs that have been fixed in later versions.
