Rumor: Windows 10 To Be Offered To Windows XP Users For $39
http://www.windows10update.com/2015/05/windows-10-to-be-offered-to-windows-xp-users-for-39/Or $39.99, to be more specific. Rumor has it that Microsoft is ready to unveil a special upgrade promotion for Windows XP users, in order to entice them to move to Windows 10 at launch.
This, to go with free upgrades for those with Windows 7 and Windows 8 licenses during the first 12 months is sure to help with the early uptake of the new operating system something that Microsoft absolutely need in order to do away with the fragmentation affecting the platform.
And while complete pricing details of Windows 10 are still out of sight, there are now talks that Redmond has a plan in mind for those that are still running Windows XP.
Russian leaker WZor has just revealed that users of the vintage (and now retired) operating system will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for just $39.99.
more at link, I put Rumor in subject line to be crystal clear about this link.

(41,694 posts)Someone once brought me a laptop with XP on it. It had a Pentium II 233 MHz cpu and 64 Mb RAM. took it about 5 minutes to boot up to the desktop and the hard drive was going crazy swap filing but it actually ran XP

(18,606 posts)166-MHz Pentium MMX, 64 MB RAM that booted in about 5-6 minutes. I think it had a 30 GB HDD.
Two USB ports (or maybe 1 with a hub) but no Ethernet. I bought a USB -> Ethernet adapter but that would drop its connection if I plugged in a USB mouse.

(3,655 posts)will Windows 10 run industrial programs that have no newer version. We had to dump a Win8 install to get our printers working. We also use XP and Win 98 to program PLCs.

out of curiosity, what kind of printers were you using that wouldn't work in 8?
Mnpaul
(3,655 posts)some using USB and some using a serial port. It was click print and wait several minutes for it to do something. It was also impossible to cancel a printing job once started. You either had to wait for it to finish or have the admin go into "services" to shut down the printer spooler.

(3,655 posts)Everything functions fine under Win 7. Why would the printer system have to be changed forcing manufacturers to create new drivers. Printers were the thing that almost always worked in Windows, even before plug and play.
As far as Brady goes, some of the people they hire are clueless idiots. The sales rep they sent out wasn't even aware that there was a Windows 8. We have had to send back numerous label rolls due to improper programming of the chip inside the roll. They gave us a new printer to use but didn't give us the proper supplies to use it. The new printer was incompatible with our older label files but they did offer to retype hundreds of files in the new format.
It is just easier to use Win 7 and the old printer. Buying new printers is not an option as they are quite expensive. The AB Clearmark is used to create terminal markers for our electrical panels. It is an inkjet that bakes the markers after printing them. Once they cool, you can break them of and snap them into the terminals. It's a pretty cool setup:
