Strange Flash problems and a fix

I started having problems last Tuesday -- Unknown error unknown error 2048.
Later in the week Youtube came to a crawl.

I uninstalled flash reinstalled flash, cleared cache, cleared cookies, ran autoruns, still the problem persisted.

I accidentally found the problem. Somewhere, somehow I had some sort of tracking software that was trying to send to a non-existent (or temporarily down) host.

I added the following two lines to my host file and now all is well. (I think it was the first one, but I added the second one on principle.)

127.0.0.1 ping.chartbeat.net
127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net

Now everything works.

I hope this helps someone else. I couldn't find any answers when I Googled.
