I think I got ripped off...again. Inverter and Dell Inspiron 1520
So I was experiencing monitor flicker and blackouts back in December and got the monitor fixed to the tune of $225.00. Then a few days after the 90 day warranty the monitor went out again. I just got it back from the repair place (paid $50.00 this time) and turned it on. There wasn't enough brightness to my liking and was dismayed to determine that the function-up arrow key is set up as high as it will go.
Does anyone else know how to turn up the brightness of this monitor? Or am I screwn?

(1,524 posts)If the shop is close enough, I'd keep bugging them (nicely if possible) until they actually fix it (and not give them any more money). Also, next time (if there is one), it'd be a good idea to try it out in the shop before leaving.

(20,878 posts)The A31 model -- solid as a rock. I've had a few of them. I'd recommend this approach to anyone that doesn't feel like dumping a couple of grand into a new laptop.
Some of the old ThinkPads out there that have been worked over by a knowledgeable person are really quite good.
Sorry to know of your bad experience. I can certainly relate.
Anyone want a new Toshiba laptop (pile o'junk IM). Bad investment and an even worse computer.
Then I went back to buying old ThinkPads for about $100-200 a piece. Solves the laptop problem YES.
