Got my new laptop setup the way I want it.
Toshiba Satellite C675-S7104. Pentium B960 cpu, 4Gb RAM, came with 320Gb hard drive, 17-in LED backlight display.
Only problem was it kept failing creating rescue disks-after 4 coasters I said the hell with it. took 10Gb crapware off the hard drive.
Finally decided to put in spare 500 Gb drive I had sitting here. Installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 from one of my disks, changed product key to the one one the sticker on the laptop-authenticated no problem. Then installed dual boot with Linux Mint 11. Funny thing is the clean install of Windoze made it perform faster than the decrapified original install
The original out-of-the-box system had 55 programs pre-installed according to Revo. WhenI finished cleaning it out, it had only 24 installed. WAY too much crapware, but that is standard on any new machine.

(14,478 posts)...is nuke the drive and put an OEM Windoze on it. It takes a while arsing around to add all the drivers back (And any utils I actually want), but at least I know what I've got afterwards.
(Stage 2 is put a dual-boot Linux on it and never look back. )
