Figured a work-around to my first W10 Edge malware problem

...which, looking at other forums seems to be becoming a regular issue.

You go to a website and a phony malware alert pops up, locking your screen unless you click on a button. Of course, nobody with any sense would click on the button. First try, I control-alt-delete to the task manager and close Edge. Then I reopen Edge, and it kindly takes me to the last open screen - immediate malware lock up again. Then I close Edge and restart the system. Open Edge, and its right back to lock-up.

The work around is that even locked up you can do a search from the W10 lower left Search form, and then it will give you a list of options, which will include websites. If you click on one of those, it will by default open you a new tab in Edge, now unlocked. If you go to a tab to the left of the malware one and right click, one of the options that will come up is "close all tabs to the right". Click this and it will eliminate the malware tab.

From what I've heard its just an obnoxious hack that takes advantage of a weakness to annoy people by locking up the screen, and not actually any installed virus or trojan, so once you've closed the tab that's done.

and Edge has been my default browser in 10 until the other day when I reset it Pale Moon. Edge did most things just fine, but it does call home a lot and didn't do everything so fine.

I'm using Firefox now more than anything else, with Opera for a few other things and Malwarebytes in the background on all of them.

And no hijacking problems-- just those horrible damn websites that take forever to load all their background crap.
