********Here, I'm typing from the above: (why are there 2 different sets of numbers/codes?) ::
(O.K., nothing's happening - I hold down ALT and type the numbers? Nothing here.

(70,725 posts)So are the codes for typing text into e-mail and documents?
ON EDIT: So the codes don't work in my e-mail either, just the Copy/Paste deal.

(18,482 posts)...ALT codes only work from the numeric keypad. I could be wrong.

(70,725 posts)I won't need to go to the trouble of the numbers (looking up all those numbers and motor-coordinating ALT at the same time). Thanks!1

(18,482 posts)In the Start menu under Accessories>>System Tools>>Character Map or...
...from the run dialog which you can open via the Windows key simultaneous with R, which is referred to as Win+R.
From the run dialog type charmap and press the Enter key.
The character map looks like this:
A few other useful hot key shortcuts:
Win+E opens the Windows File Explorer
Win+L locks your screen

(18,482 posts)Someone else here is chock full of the other keyboard shortcuts but those I posted and Ctrl+Shift+Escape are the only ones I use much. Being annoyed, stymied and frustracted (frustrated for a protracted time period) by Windows can lead to all sorts of information that's useful 3-4 times in each decade.

(15,882 posts)see what their directions are for inerting those characters. It may be different than you expect.
And there may be 2 or 3 ways.

Seems to work for me using the alt+ codes.
Win7, FF 43.0.4, "latin" fonts, "default for current locale" as the text code page.
The text code page would be the first thing I would check.

(10,136 posts)Good catch. The alt+ codes work only with the numeric keypad.
