I just saw on my computer screen that I need to talk with a Microsoft technician immediately

There was a message inside a special dialogue box that stated that a serious error was occurring from my IP address, and that only by calling 571 620 0122 could the matter be resolved.

Supposedly this is a message that is internally generated?

I am having computer problems. For example, earlier today, I could read posts but not any OP's, as the OP's all had Lines (like school notepaper lines) and without ANY text, so I couldn't tell what the OP actually said, only the responses.

The message (supposedly from Microsoft) read: need to debug browser spyword 895 system 32.exe

Any one know if I am now being scammed? I haven't called the number yet, and won't do so til people here and my computer tech give me the Big A-Okay..

But I would virus scan your system immediately ...

So what pops up ... Also run your standard malware blocker too .... That one doesn't pass the smell test ...

"This was a random pop-up message, not from Microsoft or any other reputable company, and doesn't indicate that there is a problem with your computer or IP Address. You shouldn't have called the number but since you didn't pay them anything or allow remote access there is nothing you need to do."

Knowing that DU folks are only a click or two away and willing to help has literally saved my life.

This is only the life of my computer, but still: [h2][font color=blue]THANK YOU!

Glad to see they are being sued.

I had invested some two hours of my time for the computer scan when I realized I had to be paid customer to have the identified problems fixed..

At least my computer is now working much much better than it has in 4 months!

I always liked it and then about four months ago, it would get snagged on one of the files it was scanning, and two hours later, still be there.

I think the file was a cookie, as it had along string of alphabetic letters and some numbers, and not a normal file name like "MyLetterTo Sanders.doc" but something like "asbr56fdwrtxc"

The other thing I noticed was that it ws very similar to like ten other files on the
computer. ( similar except small differences, like "asbr56fdzxtxc" would be etc. )

It is usually in the spouse's care, and he hates giving it up to me.

Anyway your advice is sound, and I will indeed trouble shoot to re-find it and then purge!

I am betting you would be having problems if you were on my computer.

Not the newest and definitely in needs of some repairs.
