How transfer pics on android phone to memory card?

I *have* made a little effort, Googling, and here's one article to prove it, but I"m missing something because it doesn't look like the tranfer worked, still get "not enough space to open Gallery".

http://innov8tiv.com/how-to-move-pictures-from-gallery-to-sd-card-in-android-galaxy-s5-or-any-other-phone/

* went to "All Files" then Device Storage
* then Device Storage
* Thumbnails
* Select All
* Move. Copy. Tried both, nothing worked, still got "Can't open Gallery, not enough memory"

************

How do I transfer my photos from my phone to my SD card?

From a Home screen, navigate: Apps > Samsung folder > My Files. ...
Select an option (e.g., Images, Audio, etc.).
Tap the Menu icon (located in the upper-right).
Tap Edit then tap the desired file(s). ...
Tap the Menu icon .
Tap Move.
Tap SD card.
Navigate to the preferred folder then tap DONE.

Setting the Default Memory Storage to SD for the Internet App:

While on a home screen, tap "Apps"
Tap "Internet"
Press the "Menu" key and tap "Settings"
Under "Advanced", tap "Content settings"
Tap "Default storage" and select "SD card"

Using your favorite file browser app:
Navigate to the SD card, create a folder for your pictures. (Same name as the internal storage helps.)
Copy, not move, the image files from the folder on the internal storage to the folder on the SD card.
Verify that the copy was successful.
Restart the phone to flush the file buffers and kickstart the media indexing service.
Again verify that the copy to the SD card was successful.
Delete the old files from the internal storage.

Your camera will probably store is images and videos in the "DCIM" folder tree.
Social media apps like to use subfolders in the "Pictures" folder.
Some apps like to use the "Download" folder.

While you are at it, there is also the "Music" folder and the "Documents" folder.

Some apps that use lots of data space (camera, maps, GPS, games) sometimes let you store the data on the SD card while leaving the app on the internal storage. Check the settings in the individual apps.

Also keep in mind that having a large number of files in a single folder is not a good idea (slows down the performance).

NOTE: All I want to transfer are the PICTURES/Gallery, which is FULL on the device (get "Unable to open app, not enough storage space to open Gallery. Go to My Files, then delete some files" ) I don't do videos or Music or anything else, as simple as possible.

I translated some of what you said that was too advanced for myself, as follows:

* Went to All Files
* Device Storage (where the Pictures in gallery are that I want to transfer to the SD card. )
* Copy (DCIM? to SD card?)
* Deleted DCIM from Device Storage

********STILL can't open images either on Device or on SD card. There are Thumbnails in both, any selection yields the "Unable to open app, delete some files" message.

If you can spare more tips, please do, but KEEP IT SIMPLE for me, thanks!1

Keep in mind that "gallery" is not a location, it is a picture viewing app. It shows you all the pictures located everywhere on your phone.

Step by step to transfer the images using "my files" or "file manager":

Navigate to the SD card.
If needed, create a new folder at: 3-dot menu > new folder
Navigate to the internal storage, to the parent folder of the child folder to copy.
3-dot menu > copy > select the folder to copy > sd card > into the new parent folder > OK

Navigate into the new child folder.
Verify that the pictures did copy.
Restart the phone.

Open the "my files" app.
Navigate to the SD card, verify that the pictures are still there.
Navigate to the internal storage, to the old folder.
Tap the "trash can" icon to start the delete process (or use the 3-dot menu)
select the old folder
tap "delete".
(Verify your work at each step as there is no "undo" of a delete.)

I would restart the phone again.

If the basic gallery app does not work correctly now, there is either something odd going on or you just need a better picture viewing app.
I like "piktures" by Diune:

How much free space is left on your internal storage?

4. Free space: 0.04 out of 8 GB. That's the problem. I did the steps in your post #3 (again) and

there are thumbnails and a NEW pic taken with the camera AFTER the inserting of the SD, but none of them can be opened because of the same error message of full storage.

Will look for your diune suggestion. How do I store things in the cloud?

5. Does your phone have a USB port, and have you got a desktop or a laptop?

If both are true, maybe you can transfer your photos to that desktop/laptop via USB cable.

Here's how I do it on my Android:
Turn on both phone and computer
Connect them with USB cable
Open "Settings" app on phone
Scroll to "Connectivity"
Enable "Connect as: Media sync mode"

My Windows box usually picks up the phone right off the bat, but sometimes I need to push
the F5 button a couple of times before it shows up in 'Computer'

Any Apple or Linux folks feel free to chime in, as I am unfamiliar with how they handle
media transfers/syncing.

it showed nothing but empty folders, both in the device icon and card. I thought I was going to Move files from device to card, like with other things, but can't move empty nothings!1. Thanks

6. Well, I've got all the pics on the card, thanks to you.

Went to the local office of the provider with the problems and they deleted more apps that came with the phone, a temporary fix to free up space just to open Gallery. This gave me elbow room to organize pics to keep and Copy to the card. I deleted the original folders and Restarted.

I've delayed doing an update for software for firmware until I got ths done in case it took up space.

Yes this is an old phone but I like the size in my shirt pocket and my limited uses, except for the memory. Thanks, lots.

O.K., I take heart from the SLIGHTEST things available, so:

After all the SD card drama, waited to do the "software update" and the totals for STORAGE (this is what it's all about) :

BEFORE: 7.02 used out of 8.0 capacity

AFTER: 6.95 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Thanks for small favors!1 It's an "android system update" so that's BIG!1
