Google instant apps on Android phone

How the heck do you turn off/remove it/disable it?

Everything I have Googled directs me down paths that don't exist on my phone.

It isn't just that it's something I would never use. It once sucked $10 out of my pocket when it got hung up updating on the data connection I forgot to turn off on my pay-as-you-go phone.

Opt in or out of Instant Apps

On your device, open the Settings app .
Go to Google Instant Apps.
Under "Instant Apps account," select which account to opt in our out of. To opt out for all accounts, tap None.

But I'll also give a bit of unsolicited advice. Go to your settings menu. Starting at the top, open every option, sub-option and sub-menu and really read what it's asking you. You'll find that you can turn off many auto things that you may find intrusive or are battery/CPU-cycle hogs.

I recently set up an android tablet for friends going travelling. We pared it down to a sleek, private device that didn't default to
Google Inc. for everything.

I did go through the options as you suggested and made some other stuff more to my liking.

So all I can suggest is doing a pinpoint Google search of your phone model and operating system for clues.

If you type the search terms like this it may help. Use the double quotes and plus signs - this helps eliminate unwanted results.

"Phone model" +"Android version" +disable google instant apps

Example:

"Samsung Galaxy S9" +"Android oreo" +disable google instant apps
