can't press back to return to search results in chrome

i'm using an up-to-date version of google canary and if i follow a link from a search page, the back button (both in the browser and the backspace key) will take me to the page i was viewing before i googled whatever. even holding down the back button does not bring it up in the list of pages that drop down.

it works fine otherwise and i'm wondering if i may have accidentally goobered something. i googled it a bit, but couldn't find anything.

thanks in advance.

Mcafee or any other product that installs a local proxy server to catch threats? Chrome may be getting confused by the way the proxy server is performing redirection.

Try disabling any AntiVirus or Security monitors and try again. If you do not have the same issue, contact the maker of the installed software, or look for an update.

i'm assuming it's up-to-date because it's always updating. i did, however, test chrome and it worked there, the issue seems to be isolated to the canary version.

and so (1) comes with no guarantees and (2) can change daily

You might try downloading the next version of canary, when it comes out, to see if it works better

i switched to it sometime ago due to a conflict between a norton component and chrome, so i'm just going to go back to chrome and hope it's resolved.

But only when I search in the browser's "address bar". After searching, then going to one of the pages, hitting "back" seems to take me back 2 pages, and not to the search results page.

Problem does not seem to happen when I search within a window of a google page.

Don't understand this behavior, and it's annoying.
