HELP PLEASE: Black Box Command Like Pop Up "0 Files Copied" etc....
Hello all,
Today, I was perusing DU and I got a malware warning from my Avast anti-virus. I guess it was from one of the ad banners on the sides of the page maybe? Anyway, my Avast said it was blocked. But just to be safe, I restarted my laptop and ran a quick scan. No threats found, it said. A little while later, again I was back on the net, DU and elsewhere, when a could have sworn I saw a black box pop up and disappear, but I only caught it with the corner of my eye, so I thought nothing of it.
A few minutes later, it popped up again...but for longer. Long enough to read. A small black box, like a DOS command prompt thingy (Sorry, computer literacy is not so good on my end) that said something like "0 files copied" "copying files". Me, of course, freaked out and shut it all down.
Now I am worried I might have some kind of malware on my computer, or someone is stealing my files. I google the problem, and it appears several times, but the discussions usually lead to inconclusive answers. Right now, I am running a full system scan on my computer. For more info, it's a laptop, crappy Compaq Presario CQ57 i think. It's Windows 7. My browser is Firefox. I have Avast anti virus (the paid version). Pssht so much for that.
Please, anyone that can help or share some advice, it would be dearly appreciated!

(12,471 posts)update it, and run a FULL SCAN. When you are done with the full scan, which will take a while, get rid of any infections from there.
DO NOT activate it, unless you want to pay for it later. You can still run a scan with the free version, without activating the 30 (?) day trial.
You can get Malwarebytes at http://www.malwarebytes.org
If you still have trouble, check out http://www.bleepingcomputer.com . They have a lot of good remedies there, with full instructions.

(1,837 posts)i would add that the black box as you describe may simply be an artifact of the os. i've noticed it on starting some programs. it's a 'command' window. in linux we almost always have one open on purpose but even lots of programs run via the 'terminal'. you said like a DOS command prompt. that's exactly what it is. it may be harmless. otoh we are talking about windows so it could it might not.
you mk backups right?
