http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1259&pid=2446In that link and others like it in the ATA sub-forum, Elad is asking for help with the intermittent slow page-loading times.
As you see, he's asking for a traceroute when pages load slowly.
Most of you probably know how to do this already. If you do, this is not for you.
For the rest of DU, here's how:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/open-a-command-prompt-window
Then, type this exactly after the C:\ : tracert 216.158.28.196
ON EDIT: type tracert www.democraticunderground.com instead, my bad.
You then tap the Enter key, and the black window fills up slowly with several lines of information. Wait a minute or so for it to stop completely.
You then right click select all in that black window, and then do CTRL-C to copy the output to your clipboard. Open up a PM to Elad, and do CTRL-P to paste it into the PM.
Those directions should work for Windows XP, Vista and 7.
For Windows 8, follow these directions.
For Mac OSX, follow these directions.
For Linux (for completeness sake), here you go.
Hope this info helps a few and DU, also.

(60,011 posts)Well, I was a success at failing, actually.
I have Linux.
And the whole Linux page you linked to is gibberish to me.
But I gave it a try, poor Elad was very patient.
Strange bug DU has....is Angent Mike screwing with us?

(37,461 posts)They all look pretty normal to my untrained eyes. One router has a slightly higher ping time than the others, but afaik not enough to cause a big problem.
eta: From what I remember, in Linux you open a terminal and do the tracert XYZ thing and hit Enter. I forget how to copy and paste, sigh.

216.158.28.197
216.158.28.199
216.158.54.195
216.158.54.197
Not sure where you got 216.158.28.196 from, but I think it's an address that used to be listed in one of their previous DNS registrations (although 216.158.28.196 does still go to democraticunderground.com).
If I enter tracert www.democraticunderground.com at a WindowsOS comand prompt it says it is going to 216.158.54.195 (which is listed as election.democraticunderground.com as the destination in the report) via 8 total hops from my location in Southern California.
If I enter tracert 216.158.28.195 the destination is reported as www.democraticunderground.com.

(37,461 posts)It's now reporting 216.158.28.198 as the IP address.
on edit: I just did a tracert to www.democraticunderground.com myself, and I got 216.158.54.197 as the ip address.

(8,545 posts)That lists it as 216.158.54.195.
I usually use the OpenDNS CacheCheck page to find the IP for a web address - it's nice because it lists the results for various regions.

Interestingly enough, my normal traffic to DU (monitored via WireShark) uses 216.158.54.197 but when I enter tracert www.democraticunderground.com at a command prompt it resolves to 216.158.54.195.
