Anyone here experienced with Roxio Easy CD & DVD burning program? I need instructions...

on how to SAVE an image file (I guess they call that a 'project') that I've copied so I can go back to it, a day or so later, and burn another copy without having to re-copy the original DVD each time. If that makes any sense.

I have printed out the "Saving a burn data disc project as a disc image file" from the manual, but I don't understand it. Honest to goddess, I think I could write better software documentation!

Background: After having a hapless experience downloading a DVD burning program (it put a shitload of pop-ups and mini-programs on my computer, which became all but unresponsive. It took me a couple days to completely uninstall the original program and its associated crap files, and now my computer is working again. Fingers-crossed)

So, I went out and purchased the above Roxio program from Best Buy. Great program! I was able to copy a DVD and create a disc which plays flawlessly on my TV DVD player. I am in business!

BUT does anyone know, at what point I can save the image to a file? After I have burned a copy I click on File, Save as...but the "save" function is greyed out.

Help please?

I don't want to sound like an ingrate....really..

but that's the program that someone else suggested. I downloaded it and ended up with all the trash that made me want to throw my computer out the window. Took me days to fix it.

I'd be the first to admit that I'm nowhere near expert with all this download stuff, and someone who really knows what they're doing could navigate past all the ads they throw at you. I tried carefully UN-clicking various options, but still ended up with a ton of toolbar buttons at the top of my screen (some I've NEVER heard of) along with a lot of other nonsense that hung my system up something awful.

I appreciate your help, but I'm scared to death of trying to download anything at this point. Don't know what I did wrong.

It does come bundled with a toolbar but you can opt out during installation.
Majorgeeks.com is a good site that doesn't add anything of their own to the installer. But imgburn does add a toolbar option, but it really is just unticking the box during installation to avoid it.

I know you got burned and don't want to try it again but I am curious where you download it from?

http://www.imgburn.com/

But look at that website...you might think you're downloading imgburn but those are ads for CD/DVD Burner and ZipApp etc.

I think I clicked on either "download" in the blue bar or "imgburn download" below that, but that last seems to be an ad.

What a mess! People shouldn't have to slog thru such nonsense in order to download a program.

Try on the Home screen choosing Data/Copy. Then Copy Disc. On the screen that comes up see if that is where you would be able choose to Copy to Image File.

Alternatively, try going to Data/Copy and then Burn Disc then see if you have a choice of burning to an image file rather than a physical DVD.

Once you create the disc image and have it stored on your computer you can burn it at any time. So I would separate the two tasks and concentrate on finding a way to copy the DVD to a file as the first step. Then you can burn copies from the file later.

I'll try that and let you know. Thanks.

Oh, it's not Creator. It's Easy CD & DVD burning. An orange and yellow box.

I can't seem to find any guides for that program and Roxio doesn't have the manual on their site.

You said you printed out the instructions from the manual. Is the manual a .pdf file? You could upload a copy to Mediafire and give me a link and I could take a look.

***
I did see one of the instructions for Creator where you would copy it from the Video/Movies tab if you have one. See in step 2 where it is being copied to a folder.

Ok...here's what was hanging me up. There are 7 icons on the home page. Three of them are:

Copy disc to image
Copy disc
Burn disc image

I don't understand this "image" thing. An image is a picture as far as I'm concerned. I figured it was safer to just use the "copy disc" icon.

When I began with "copy disc to image" it put the file on my hard drive instead of , well, wherever it puts it with just "copy disc". So now the file is on my hard drive under C:\...\Roxio Projects\ ... just like it should be. Duh! Now I don't have to spend a half hour copying the original over and over.

I really apologize for being such a dunce. I can see why people smash up their computers from time to time. Dumb machine! Just sits there and looks at you.

I do believe I could write better software documentation than what I've seen out there, though. That's because I know what it's like to be totally clueless and I could probably anticipate where ordinary mortals get stumped.

Thank you all for your kindness and persistance. You're the greatest!

I'm glad you got it sorted!

I had problems with associating the word image to pictures as well. Over the course of time I learned that in computer speak that meant putting your files in a container file (ISO), sort of like a .zip file, that could be understood by many programs to unpack them into a certain order, a snapshot of the files to be copied so to speak. I usually capitalize "image" to emphasize you should be looking for that option. Sorry, I wasn't more clear.

There are many types of image files ISO, NRG, IMG etc. The most commonly recognized is ISO. Unfortunately, mostly paid programs use ISO in their name such as MagicISO, PowerISO etc. Free programs tend to call them IMAGE files rather than ISO.

Having file extensions showing is actually very useful as it indicates what type of files you regularly deal with. A file extension is just a three letter attachment to the name of a file that indicates which type of file it is. So you see .jpg or .png for a picture file or .doc or .docx for a Word file or .txt for a text file. It is easy to do just go to Control Panel and choose Folder Options and under the view tab, uncheck the box for "Hide File Extensions for Known File Types". Itis always the first thing I do after a fresh install. Gives you a heads up about what type of program it will open with.

I really apologize for being such a dunce. I can see why people smash up their computers from time to time. Dumb machine! Just sits there and looks at you.

I really do think the dumbest thing Microsoft did was eliminate a true printed documentation manual that allowed you to read it at your leisure and learn about everything that was built into their OS. They save $10 but caused hours/days of frustration. So much better to give you a book that you could decipher but actually see all the possible commands. Unfortunately, everyone followed their lead.

I guess it provided a niche for bloggers that can actually help you out on how to navigate their software. Roxio seems to be the same type of organization. If some kid can give you step by step screenshots of how to do things, one would think the paid staff could come of with equivalent how-to's.

You're right. It's that ISO Image thing. When I see "image" I figure that's not what I want to do.

Anyway, Thanks, all, for helping this poor clueless person.
