Anyone use CentryLink for a service provider?
I've been using Cox for years. Well, since I dumped Qwest's crappy service (who is now Century Link) . Wondering if they've made any improvements in the last 10 years. Any experience out there with Century Link?
Cox has been fine for the most part. I've had a few down times, but nothing major. The problem is $$$$. I need to cut back and Cox is killing me. I do up/down load some moderate sized files occasionally so I need something reliable.

(22,981 posts)one for four days, one for a week. Never did find out the cause of 'em, except that it was on their end. They gave me a bill credit for the first one, nothing for the second. They're charging me out the wazzoo for the modem, though. The basic service is 24.95/mo, after a one-year trial rate of 19.95/mo. Tech support is decent, I guess--I've never needed it for anything that was at my end, just when I had the two outages that were on their end; they went thru everything to see if it was on my end, and seemed to be thorough about it. But fixing the issues at their end did seem to be problematic for them. Overall, speed and reliability are pretty good, I'd say--my previous experience was with dial-up, so their DSL was a thrilling step up for me, but I had to badger them (and their predecessors (Sprint & Embarq) for eight effin' years to get it out here in the toolies, where the only other option for high-speed service is expensive and inconsistent satellite connection.

Thanks for the info.

(1,328 posts)and finally got DSL a couple of years ago. They've just upgraded our service so it's a little faster than it had been.
We had some connectivity issues a year or two ago but since then it's been pretty good. We also went wireless in Jan. that was a nightmare for a while, connected the lap top ok but couldn't get the printer to connect wirelessly because the wireless service was new to them and they rushed to get it done. Finally got a technician that researched the problem and came up with the correct solution. Since then it's been fine.
We have our land line with them also so it costs us about $100.00/mo for the total package.

(49,827 posts)Not sure I want that though. The bundle isn't that great unless I get TV with them too. Maybe, I'll have to keep shopping.
Thanks!

(3,270 posts)or any DSL for that matter will be a real eyeopener. DSL will feel like you have just saddled up on a snail. DSL cannot offer anywhere near the bandwidth of Cable or FIOS.

(49,827 posts)Maybe that's a better option. I have an mobile acct with verizon (yes, I know, they suck too). Perhaps I can get a bundle deal.
thanks.
edit. Verizon FiOS service not available in my area.

(3,270 posts)I've had much luck telling them exactly what I want from Cable, HSI and Phone...they were able to work with me and offer better rates than those of their bundled package offered on their web site. It's worth a shot.

(49,827 posts)my mother in law got a good deal but all they offered me was a different bundle that would have actually cost a couple bucks more!
Maybe I should have her call them!

(3,270 posts)does not include tax and fees. That may be the difference you are seeing. You office may operate differently than my local office. Try again in a week and see if you get different results

(1,328 posts)with the dsl service from Centurylink, had satellite for a couple of years and that wasn't much better than dial up so when we had the chance to get the dsl we jumped.

(3,539 posts)I was one of their first DSL customers on this side of town. It was a bit rough at first but they were right there!
Then came CentryLink.
On the part of others I had 2 run ins with their service group.
Let's start with English is not their first language and probably not their second language either.
It went down hill from there!
Were their an alternate suitable provider I would have migrated myself and any of my customers right then and there.
That being said.
The DSL is reliable! I have had only 1 short outage in the last two years. No complaints at all.
Their package deals can be cost effective and if you find the right price point you may still be able to get long term contracts.
My last go round with customer support wasn't as bad but not quite up to what was Qwest.
In my experience cost/performance is good and all should be well as long as customer support doesn't get involved.

(5,264 posts)Well, it was Qwest for most of those years. I've had a couple outages, for a day or two, but their customer support has been pretty good at fixing me up. My phone service is kinda flaky, especially when it rains (fortunately, I live in Washington State, where it hardly ever rains, LOL) Not the fastest service known to mankind, but, all in all, I suppose I'm satisfied.

(49,827 posts)My sister lives on the eastern side, and it's pretty dang dry there. At least in comparison to here in the midwest.
