question everything

As I have posted here, I got a new iMac. Meaning, I had to get a new printer

my perfectly previous printer needed a PowerPc which the old iMac had but not the new one.

Thus, we went to Best Buy to get a new B&W Laser Brother which can also scan. (Had to get rid of my old scanner that could not communicate with the El Capitan software.)

I connected the new printer via USB cable and it printed everything. But not scanning.

Finally contacted Brother and... not only did I have to download a scanner software, but has to go to the App store to be able to scan.

Contacted Brother twice. First by chat for the download and then called for the App.

At the end I asked: why do I have to get two application? Or, something new, for the Mac.

I am getting too old for this.. Was a lot easier, back in 1987 with the little Mac SE and a super expensive Apple laser printer..

(the geek on "Murphy Brown" saying that flip phones actually open notwithstanding)

How do I find it? Under applications?

Should work with all connected scanners/cameras.

Use a Canon pixma printer. I will have to check on the ability to scan items. Otherwise it works well.

Give me 1955.

Ya took the paper you wanted to scan. Put a blank piece of paper under it. Put a piece of blue paper between the two and you got your scan.

Installed the matching driver (from http://support.brother.com), and can scan and print and fax without hassle.

There are lots of ways of scanning, but System Preferences / Printers & Scanners is what I use the most. You might have to do an 'add printer' the first time (the '+' at the bottom of the list of printers). But then your device should show up and include a 'scan' button.

No apps needed after the driver install.
