Open Source Tabby Car Gets Green Light
With the exponential awareness of Open Source hardware the market for Open Source Vehicle (OSV) is growing. In October, designs for Tabby, a fully operational Open Source car, were posted on the internet. Available with gasoline powered or electric engine designs. It is easy to build, free to gain the specs, and it is available for anyone to make. In fact, some are planning to build them to sell.
Tabby is predicted to do well in markets such as the developing world, and also in crowded smart cities. Though the Open Source project was born in Italy, it has gained great interest in: France, Spain, Netherlands, Madagascar, China, and the United States.
The open design enables any person to download the 3D CAD of the vehicle, and begin to assemble it. However, because the project is available through free and collaborative efforts, and engineers and designers all over the world with different specialties and expertise can adjust the plans and improve the designs. OSF does not prevent anyone from building their own car, though they produce them themselves, instead they offer competitive prices on a tested and durable product.
