Anyone here experienced in developing facebook related stuff?

I need to create and post events from an external web link. Facebook's documentation makes me want to strangle someone. I could really use some advice if there's anyone here who's done something similar.

I bought a couple books, but a web tutorial is very helpful. It took me a while to realize I actually needed to create an app, since the event link will exist on a page outside of facebook.
