Maksim Tsvetovat and Tatyana Kanzaveli say they doubt they could have started their data-collection company, Open Cancer Network, without Obamacare.

Tsvetovat, 37 and the father of a four-year-old boy, said he was hesitant to quit his job as chief technology officer at a consulting firm and lose his health coverage. Even more crucially, Kanzaveli, 50, was diagnosed with colon cancer in January, less than two months after her contract job with an investment company ended. Her condition left her unable to purchase new medical insurance.

It’s a scary thing when I have to think, can I afford to do things that will keep me alive?” said Kanzaveli, who underwent a $160,000 surgery and now has regular screenings. “We have high expectations for Obamacare.”

The partners’ experience highlights a risk entrepreneurs have long faced: if they quit a job to start a business, they lose employer-provided health coverage. That could mean paying more for an individual policy or being denied insurance because of a pre-existing condition. The Affordable Care Act, popularly called Obamacare, seeks to change that by offering subsidies to purchase insurance on exchanges and banning discrimination based on medical history.

The big point with entrepreneurs is that now you can leave your job without worrying what your health insurance is going to be, because you have an option and you know you can enroll,” said Christine Eibner, an economist whose focuses include health and insurance at Santa Monica, California-based nonprofit research group RAND Corp. “You did not have that before the Affordable Care Act.”

1. Obamacare is about freedom.

So many people are chained to their jobs because of healthcare coverage fears. Not being dependent on your employer for healthcare will be incredibly liberating.

As a cancer survivor like the person in this article, I felt chained to my job. Now I know I will be able to get insurance no matter what I decide to do. Obamacare has given me freedom to a profound extent.

The thing is, I hadn't really thought about how it would benefit me personally. When I was going to healthcare rallies, I was doing it for my brother, who as a self-employed man, was never able to afford health insurance. Then he developed medical problems and with a pre-existing condition, he couldn't buy it even if he had the money. The ACA will save my brother's life. What I didn't realize was how much it will improve my life.

You know, it just dawned on me that my husband was chained to my job too. He depends on me for health insurance since he is self-employed. In fact, he waited until I got that job before starting his/our business. He could have started the business a lot sooner if he was not afraid of not having health coverage. Now, I can quit my job if I want and work with him in the business full time. Or not. I now have the freedom to choose.

4. How sweet to have the freedom to do what you

want for your job and not have to worry about the all important health care coverage.

There will many other couples down the road who will not have to wait for the other to get a job before they start their own business or leave their current healthcare provided job.

So many reasons why it's "A Good Thing for America" and why the republicons want to kill it before it multiplies!

8. The old system

The old employer based health insurance system was a form of economic servitude.

Face it, how many of us hung on to humiliating and infuriating jobs because to quit would be to risk medical bankruptcy?

The ACA will go a long way for me to feel more secure as I reach retirement age and also enjoy a lot more happiness in my older years.

I am so happy this has come for everybody in America!

I also think most employers aren't really happy about the health insurance system before the ACA?

11. I'm happy for everyone about the ACA

including myself. While I'll never lose a healthy fear of catastrophic illness or tragedy such as cancer, at least I don't have to worry about being able to get treatment either. What a sea change in so many lives!
